The UT time now is:

Congratulations! You've found the website for the "Beginner Astronomy 2009" pod-cast series. This series is free for all and will require no subscriptions, equipment, or previous experience.  All that is required is an interest in hearing about astronomy.  Having binoculars, a small telescope, and a planisphere are all great tools anyone can find without spending a lot of money, but they're not necessary.  If you have some time during the evening with  dark and clear skies you can still enjoy astronomy!

In honor of 2009 being the "Year of Astronomy," this is a 12 part series that breaks down the evening sky month by month throughout 2009.  Each month we'll highlight a constellation or two, providing beginner level information about objects in the constellations, meteor shower dates, eclipses, and where the other planets can be found in the sky.  Remember this is intended to be at a beginner's level so everyone can enjoy.  Don't forget to return on or around the 1st of every month in 2009 for current events and a link to listen or download the pod-cast.  Feel free to download the audio presentation to your mp3 player or cd and take it with you outside and enjoy!

This website is part of the John Johnson highway.
John Johnson the great adventurer.
2009 is going to be a great year for astronomy. Enthusiasts all over the world are planning events and activities to promote the science of astronomy.  This is a great chance to get involved in community building and discover just how much space kicks ass.

Your Host:
John Johnson is an amateur astronomer who does most of his observing from Long Beach, California with his 130mm (5.1 inch) Celestron telescope.  You can sometimes find him and his telescope camping in Santa Barbara, San Juan Capistrano, Earlimart, or Catalina, California where the skies are darker he can get away from Long Beach crack-heads.  His early observations were planetary but he now focuses mainly on galaxies and bad ass nebulas.  This podcast series is John's contribution and celebration of 2009 being called the Year of Astronomy.

The songwriter responsible for the music used on the Beginner Astronomy Podcast is Cory M.
